Siena, as featured in ‘Quantum of Solace’, is home to some pretty stunning architecture. Best known for the encapsulating Piazza del Campo, there’s a calming ambience about Siena, particularly on a lovely sunny day. The Piazza is the main square, which is paved and divided into 9 sections via red coloured bricks. This somehow adds to the already symbiotic architectural relationships. Although 007 cruised around here in his Aston Martin, it is a pedestrian zone! Just off the Piazza the quirky little streets are more serene. Perhaps more beautiful. A short stroll away is the beautiful Battistero di San Giovanni and the spectacular Siena Duoma (Cathedral). The gothic style Duomo, with its impressive spires and statues protruding from the façade and the outstanding white and black marble interior, is truly jaw dropping and a definite ‘must see’. Although Siena is a small town, it’s well worth a visit and only a day trip from the next stop – Florence. Home of the Renaissance. Can’t wait!
