We identified issues with extended travel distances, an open void in the lobby and rooms with increased fire risk.
Innovation Fire Engineering used various trial fire designs to assess the issues. Enhanced levels of detection and fire resistance will adequately compensate for increased travel distances within some flats and the increased fire risk in a specific area.
The provision of automatic opening vents enabled the voids to be an acceptable level of risk, alongside 24 hour monitoring of the fire alarm, increased levels of fire detection and fire resistance within the flats which allowed a phased, rather than simultaneous, evacuation policy to be adopted.
We identified value engineering and cost effective solutions to resolve fire service access issues. Our analysis enabled the optimisation of fire resistance to the structural elements.
