Last week we welcomed a student from a local high school to join the team on a work placement. As a company we are keen to encourage young people into engineering and give them a valuable insight into the discipline of fire engineering. Offering well structured and supportive work placements is part of our contribution to help build a strong workforce for the future and hopefully inspire more students to study in the field of engineering. These valuable work placement opportunities can help equip students with employability skills to enhance their academic skills.
As part of the training programme, our student learned about the principles of fire engineering, the impact of fire safety on building design, means of escape, means for giving warning, internal fire spread (structure), external fire spread and access to facilities for the fire service. The student showed an impressive attention to detail and by the end of the week, with support from the team, they had even built their own virtual CFD model of our office!
