At Innovation Fire Engineering we’re always keeping on top of regulatory change, so here’s a quick take-away on the recent amendment to the furniture fire-safety regime introduced on the 30th October:
What’s changing?
- The amendment to the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 comes into force on 30 October 2025.
- Certain baby- and young-children’s products are now exempt from the Regulations.
- The requirement for a “display label” (swing-tag style) on new upholstered furniture is removed.
- The time-limit for enforcement legal proceedings is extended from 6 to 12 months.
Recommended next steps
- Review current upholstered furniture supplied or specified.
- Ensure procurement teams understand the updated labelling requirements.
- Keep documentation for compliance.
- Check excluded items still meet safety standards.
