I woke up one morning and a thought struck me, I had nearly finished with learning and would soon be off into the “real world”! This was a scary thought. Almost as scary as the thought of school! On that first morning many years ago when at the age of 4 I trudged off for the first time. I decided on a placement as the best way of “dipping my toe” into life after university.
It was great!
I realised as early as my interview I was finishing formal education not finishing learning. Over the placement I have looked at a vast range of projects across a spectrum of building uses. Some of these were current jobs where I was able to see my effort affecting the project. Others were older projects but gave me experience in other areas.
The schedule of my placement was suited to me, I was kept busy enough to avoid losing focus but not rushed. Most importantly for me and in contrast to my previous placements with other companies, there was time for discussion. I was never wrong full stop. We had different opinions about things and talked over why I though a certain way and why James thought the way he did. That was, I think, beneficial for both of us.
I also had the chance to get out the office and attended a training session on networking skills and then a networking event. This gave me a chance to speak to several other people about the weather, football and inevitably business meeting a few potential new clients along the way.
I enjoyed the placement and learned a lot, I would encourage anyone thinking of a doing a placement to seriously consider Innovation Fire Engineering for themselves.
