• The flat had extended travel distance with the means of escape adjacent to the cooking appliances. Escape windows could not be provided due to the sloping siteand height of the back of the flat being at second floor level and therefore in excess of 4.5m from the ground.

• Problem Solving there is usually more than one way to solve a problem but not all of the solutions will be acceptabel to the client. A second escape route could have been provided but this would have been costly. Depending upon the location of the escape route, security issues for other flat occupants would have resulted.
