CFD modelling 

• Cost Saving - removal of 12 FD20S doors.
• Design Flexibility – use of CFD modelling to compare a code complaint hotel design with the proposed design with extended single direction travel distance of 21m, cross ventilation and no cross corridor doors.
• Building Regulations Approval – use of CFD modelling to check the reduced sizes of the AOVs were acceptable.
• Cost Saving – justified the use of wooden staircases, including the fire fighting stairs within the fire fighting shaft.
• Cost Saving – calculations used to safely reduce the structural fire resistance from 90 minutes to 60 minutes
• Building Regulation Approval – justified means of escape by strategic fire resistance at ground floor level, without altering the layout.
• Time and Cost Saving – marked up all the fire resistance requirements throughout the hotel to prevent over specification and increases in the project cost.
