The proposed building was a ten storey hotel development with a retail unit and cafe/bar on the ground and first floor respectively.
Innovation Fire Engineering optimised the fire resistance throughout the hotel, which allowed the removal of 8 FD30S cross-corridor door sets, 8 FD20S cross-corridor door sets and a final exit. In addition, we minimised the fire resistance of doors and walls on the ground and first floor to provide our client with a significant cost saving on fire resistant requirements, whilst still ensuring fire safety. We further reduced the fire resistant requirements of the structural elements on the first to ninth floors, from 90 minutes to 60 minutes, again achieving large cost savings for our client.
Innovation Fire Engineering designed an ‘L5’ fire engineered fire alarm system and specified strategic fire resistance at ground floor to provide the hotel and retail unit with independent evacuation in the event of a fire. This significantly reduced the potential for disruption to hotel occupants and retail customers in the event of false alarms within the other part of the development.
