Trafford Youth Centre

The proposed Trafford Youth Centre is a two storey development consisting of a ground floor and first floor. The centre will be utilised for a variety of purposes and will be a flexible and complex building.

The client wanted Innovation Fire Engineering to develop a fire strategy, without the provision of a suppression system and allow the building operator flexibility in how they used the space. I therefore developed a fire safety engineering approach to achieve a satisfactory standard of fire safety.

The resulting fire safety strategy developed utilised compartmentation and an ‘L5’ fire engineered fire alarm system, specific to the building. The means of escape were designed on the principle of maximum occupancies for credible ‘worse case fire scenario’. The holistic approach to the fire strategy achieved the client’s objectives.

Innovation Fire Engineering was pro-active in developing a more cost effective design, an example of which allowed the removal of an external staircase.
